Why Are Atheists Generally More Zealous Than Christians?

Most Atheists I’ve come across actively preach the “No God Theory” as if it’s their purpose in life to convert Christians and other Theists to their beliefs.

As a young man, I studied science and many religions. Using my critical thinking skills, I’ve determined there must be a Creator (God); even if I can’t observe, test, experiment, and reconfirm my experiments to prove conclusively that a God exists, I also can’t prove that a God doesn’t exist by the same methods.

Since I believe I do exist, and everything I do generally has a purpose to it, I can’t imagine how the Universe could just happen randomly without a purpose (Why does the universe exist). Because it took deliberate thought to cause me to do or create things, I believe the Universe had to of had deliberate thought behind its creation too.

I can understand people identifying as Agnostic, having no opinion about God’s existence. Atheists, on the other hand, seem to have a strong belief that there is no God at all. It seems to me that it is just as hard to prove the non-existence of something as it would be to prove its existence.

As to what religion I chose amongst the bewildering choices, I chose Christianity because it made the most sense to me. Before I was old enough to understand religion, I had already done things that would have condemned me in every other mainstream religion, that I had no hope of redemption. In Christianity, my God, in his mercy, sent his son to walk on the Earth and offer a free ticket to Heaven for anyone who believes in him and asks for forgiveness.

Ultimately, any belief in something that can’t be proven or disproven requires faith. Some people call it blind faith, but blind faith would require no critical thinking to accept, whereas faith does require critical thinking before accepting the belief. Many people, including scientists, believe there is life on other planets. There is no proof of life or that there is no life out there. It takes logical thinking and faith (not blind faith) to believe one or the other.

So, let’s get back to the Atheists. Since science can neither prove nor disprove life on other planets, so too can science neither prove nor disprove God’s existence; it must take faith to believe in either theory. So why do so many Atheists get so fired up toward Theists with their beliefs? One possible reason could be that they are afraid to be wrong. After all, they are supposed to be the learned elite with a monopoly on the truth. Another fear they might have of being wrong would result in a horrible afterlife.
